Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal are widely loved by millions around the world. Sure, for their incredible tennis skills, but also for their style, their athleticism, their big guns, their “such good guy-ness” and everything else they bring to the sport of tennis.
Sometimes I feel like throwin my hands up in the air
I know I can count on you
Sometimes I feel like sayin Lord I just don’t care
But you’ve got the love…..
Florence and the Machine
I keep seeing articles like this about Roger and Rafa and their chances (or not) of winning the US Open:
- Can Rafael Nadal win Major No.11 at the US Open
- Bold Predictions for the US Open’s Top Seeds
- Roger Federer: 5 Reasons the Swiss Master is Sliding Heading in to the US Open
Yes, it’s a fact that both Roger and Rafa lost in the Cincinnati Quarter Finals
And yes, it’s a fact that Novak Djokovic is on an incredible win-loss streak this year with 57 wins to 2 losses (one to Federer in the Roland Garros semi final and one when he withdrew against Murray in the Cincinnati final.)
But all reasons aside for Roger and Rafa’s recent results, I believe that they’ve got the love that will see them through.
One of the reasons I love tennis so much is that you can predict the outcome until those cows come home but there will always always always be upsets. For me, the uncertainty is one of the consistent certaintys.
I’m not going to predict who will win the US Open, (well, maybe at least not until the draw comes out).
But if it’s Rafa or Roger, I’ll be pleased to see either of them on the podium.
Like Adam Sandler sang in the Wedding Singer, “Don’t write me off just yet”.
Other than that, whatever happens, my vote is for quality tennis…. and no rain delays.
What do you think about Roger and Rafa’s chances at the US Open? Leave a comment and let me know.
Until next time
