The French Open prize money increased by 1.2 million Euro in 2012, to a total of 18.7 million Euro.
The winner prize money increased from Euro 1.2 million to 1.25 million but it is players who lose in the early rounds who will receive the biggest percentage increase in comparison to 2011. For example first round prize money has increased by 20%.
In 2012 the Australian Open offered the highest prize money in the history of grand slam tennis with a total prize pool of AUD 26 million (approx Euro 20.2 million). I’ve listed the AO prize money for each round so you can compare.
I’ve converted both amounts to the approximate equivalent in US Dollar. All exchange rates were worked out using the OANDA currency converter on 14 May.
Although exchange rates go up and down day by day, the Australian Dollar is strong at the moment which means that the AO prize money converts to more USD / Euro / GBP etc than it would have in the past.
