The Australian Open e-Companion is no longer available. However, you’ll find loads of useful information about going to the Australian Open on my website.
Would you like to avoid spending hours of time on online to find out everything you need to know to make the most of your visit to the Australian Open and Melbourne?
Hi I’m Mel, aka Grand Slam Gal.
I’ve been a tennis fan for most of my life, ever since I was allowed to stay up on a school night in 1987 to watch Pat Cash defeat Ivan Lendl to win Wimbledon.
Twelve years ago I set a goal to attend all four tennis grand slam events the year I turned 40.
This year I achieved that goal.
And what a year it was!
Read my tennis story and find out more about the 2012 Grand Slam Plan.
Aside from getting the money together and making sure I had flexible work that allowed me to take the necessary time off, successfully completing the “fan slam” took research and planning.
Now that my fan slam is complete, I’m creating a series of e-Books to share the information that I wish I knew before I left!
The Grand Slam e-Companion series will expand on information previously shared on this blog, as well as providing new and exclusive content.
I live in Melbourne, and have been going to the Australian Open regularly for over twenty years, so I’m pleased that this, the Australian Open e-Companion, is the first in the series.
The 47 page Australian Open e-Companion includes:
- How to buy tickets
- Which tickets to buy: Rod Laver Arena, Hisense Arena or Ground Passes
- The lead up tournaments
- How Melbourne’s Public Transport system works
- How to get to Melbourne Park
- What you can and can’t bring with you to the AO
- Local internet and mobile phone options
- Things to see and do in and around Melbourne
- Bars, restaurants and cafes in Melbourne.
And many many more insider tips to help you make the most of your Australian Open experience.
What tennis fans are saying about the AO e-Companion
What a great e-Book. It’s easy to read and gives everyone a great feeling for the AO and Melbourne. The “hot tips” for tennis fans ensures a fabulous AO experience with lots of ‘inside’ information.
As a Melbournian myself I was excited to read all the tips on eating, drinking and shopping around the city. It has encouraged me to get out there and I’m now even more excited with my plans to join in the Australian Open excitement in January.

Having spent time with Mel at three grand slam tournaments (two Australian Opens and one US Open), I know firsthand what a great source of information she is about attending tennis tournaments.
So it’s no surprise to me that her Australian Open e-companion is so thorough and well researched. She’s really created a total informational package of how one can get the most out of their visit to both the Australian Open and amazing Melbourne. Grand slam tournaments can be overwhelming, so Mel’s work will help ensure your experience is as fantastic as the tennis!
I look forward to the rest of Mel’s grand slam e-companions!
