A fan’s eye view of Day 7 at the Australian Open.
Yet another nice day for tennis today, thats six out of seven day so far. I spent the day happily watching players on the practice courts, then the matches in Hisense Arena.
View today’s photos:
- Almagro v Tipsarevic
- Na Li v Goerges
- Bryan Bros v Chardy / Kubot
- Stephens, Vesnina, Rodionova, Barty & Dellacqua on the practice courts.
Unfortunately injuries had an impact on today’s results, with Tipsarevic retiring against Almgaro due to a problem with his foot. Nishikori played through until the end of his match against Ferrer but had strapping on his knee and had it re-strapped during the match. Ferrer went through in straight sets and will play Almagro in the quarter-finals.
Berdych defeated Anderson in straight sets.
In a massive match on Rod Laver Arena tonight Djokovic defeated Wawrinka 1-6, 7-5, 6-4, 6-7, 12-10. It was the first five set match on RLA this Australian Open and lasted 5 hours and 2 minutes. The first set was 25 minutes and the last one 104 minutes. The match finished around 1.45am local time. Here’s a review Djokovic defeats Wawrinka in a 5 set thriller.
The winners on the women’s side didn’t drop a set, with Sharapova, Li Na, Radwanska and Makarova going through to the quarter-finals. Notably Sharapova only lost one game to Flipkens.
