Hi grandslamgal. Thanks for your site. It has given me so much info for our final grandslamgal next Jan in Melbourne. Am awake at midnight watching live from UK and notice that roofs are partially closed giving fabulous shade. My daughter is a red head so shade is really important. Do you know where I might find out whether this same roof policy will be followed in 2018 as it will help with seat planning immensely.

Hope you’re enjoying this year’s tournament, and thanks again for such useful arena

        Hi Gloria

Thanks for your comment. I’m glad you found the info useful and it’s feedback from fans like you that inspires me to keep sharing information 🙂

In terms of shaded seats in RLA, based on my experience they generally try to set the roof so that the ends of the court are in shade ie the linespeople and so the players can have a few seconds of shade between points.

If you’re buying tickets direct via Ticketek.com.au you can actually select “Best shaded seats” or something like that when you buy them, so you have the best chance of getting shade.

Enjoy the planning and let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks Mel. That’s helped immensely. We can now be pretty certain of keeping my daughter in the shade. We had lots of trouble at the US Open but are so looking forward to Melbourne next year. Sad to say just watched Murray go out, but that’s tennis Eh?

Yeah the US Open is tough because there is so little shade generally, although their new roof might improve things. You’ll have an amazing time in Melbourne!

My old friend! I watched that match live & really much appreciated that he won! Jurgen also played well but Federer was more experienced!
