Find out about some delicious British cheeses that you can enjoy during a visit to Wimbledon.
If you’ve been following this blog for a while you might already know that after tennis, cheese is one of my favourite things. So as part of the fan slam my plan to be enjoying local cheeses in each of the Grand Slam cities.
Like Melbourne and Paris, a huge range of delicious cheese is readily available in London and the UK.
You can bring your own food to Wimbledon so cheese is lovely snack to include. The British Cheese Board has a website where you can find excellent information about different types of British cheese.
As we’re staying in Birmingham, to select the winner of the British Grand Slam of Cheese, we went to a local deli style cafe called “Pickles of Harborne”. They were really obliging in letting us taste different cheeses and giving recommendations on what to try.
We picked a Black Bomber cheddar, a Montgomery Cheddar and a Cornish Yarg.
They were all fabulous but the incredibly creamy Black Bomber cheddar was runner up.
There was also an Oxford Blue. Delicious, but not the winner.
And the winner is… Stilton!
I’ve never had a Stilton that I didn’t want more of and we were advised that this Stilton is the best in the UK. It was a clear winner.
Check out the cheese from other grand slam cities:
After being tempted by cheese a lot during the last few months in the UK and Paris I’m looking forward to getting back on the exercise bike when I get back to Melbourne in a week.
Until next time
