June 26, 2012 By grandslamgal

Get a piece of the action from the men’s matches on Centre Court on Day 1 of Wimbledon 2012.

Djokovic v Ferrero

Novak Djokovic was in blistering form for the first match defending his title, defeating 2003 Roland Garros champion and former world No.1 Juan Carlos Ferrero 6-3, 6-3, 6-1.

During the match Djokovic was broken early in the first set but broke straight back. He hit 13 aces, won 84% of first serve points, hit 34 winners to Ferrero’s 15 and made 19 unforced errors to Ferrero’s 16.

Djokovic plays Ryan Harrison in the second round.

One down, six to go. Tape must have helped.

Berdych v Gulbis

Ernests Gulbis ranked No.87 defeated No.7 ranked Tomas Berdych, 7-6, 7-6, 7-6.

Gulbis served 30 aces and hit 32 other winners, playing some incredible shots.

Guibis plays Jerzy Janowicz in the second round.

Wow, that was fast

Wow, my racquet is working well today

Another tiebreak, jeepers, I'm sure I can win this one

Gulbis Power

Another tiebreak, jeepers, I'm sure I can win this one

In a post match interview Gulbis said "Am really happy I didn't choke in the end... as usual"

He also said (with a touch of sarcasm) "I'm really well known for mental strength, watch my previous matches".

I really hate those tiebreaks

Until next time
