Monte Carlo 2012: Will it be Eight Straight for Rafa? Yes it Will!

April 15, 2012 By grandslamgal

The Monte Carlo Rolex Masters is the first ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournament on clay for the year. The main draw starts on 15 April.

Rafael Nadal has won this tournament for the last seven years. Will he make it eight straight by winning in 2012?

Or will Djokovic, or another player, leave with the trophy this year?

Article Updated on 25 April 2012

Rafa played Djokovic in the Monte Carlo final and won in straight sets (6-3, 6-1), successfully winning the tournament for eight consecutive years.

Rafa looked sensational during the match but you have to feel for Djokovic, whose grand father passed away during the tournament.

Original Article

By winning Monte Carlo last year, Rafa become the first ATP player to win a title for seven consecutive years.  Given that his last title was the French Open, Rafa has got to be hungry to win Monte Carlo and cement his place as the king of clay. Hopefully the knee injury that forced him to withdraw from the Miami semi final won’t hold him back.

Novak Djokovic didn’t play Monte Carlo last year due to a knee injury. If Rafa and Nole meet, it will be in the final. Can Nole follow up his six wins in finals against Rafa last year, plus the epic Australia Final 2012 final, with a win in Monte Carlo?

Federer and Fish aren’t in the mix but the other men from the top ten are. Djokovic could potentially play Ferrer in the quarter finals and Murray in the semis. While Rafa potentially faces Almagro in the quarter finals and Tsonga in the semis.

Here’s the ATP World Tour Vid on Rafa’s 7 Wins
