  • ASB Classic Auckland
    • Flavia Pennetta retired during the final due to a back injury and has subsequently withdrawn from the singles at the APIA International in Sydney

  • Brisbane International
      • Serena Williams due to ankle injury
      • Tommy Haas due to calf injury
      • Florian Mayer retired
      • Kim Clijsters retired during her semi final against Daniela Hantuchova due to hip injury
      • Alexsandr Dolgopolov suffered from a right thigh injury during the final, but played on
      • Francesca Schiavone suffered “gastrointestinal illness” during the semi final against Kai Kanepi, but played on

What’s Next in the Lead up to the Australian Open:

  • APIA International in Sydney (Men and Women): 8 – 14 January
  • Morilla International in Hobart (Women): 6- 14 January
  • AAMI Classic in Kooyong, Melbourne (Men): 11- 14 January
  • Heineken Open in Auckland (Men): 9 – 14 January

In news from the Hopman Cup, where, thankfully, no one had to withdraw, Mardy Fish had a bit of a meltdown during his straight sets loss to Grigor Dimitrov, and at one point even spat in the direction of Bulgarian fans.

There was so much news this week it was hard to keep up so please let me know if I missed anything 🙂
