Wimbledon 2012 Prize Money & how it compares to the French & Australian Opens

June 8, 2012 By grandslamgal

Check out the prize money for Wimbledon and see how it compares to the other grand slam tournaments from 2012..

2011 Wimbledon Champions Kvitova and Djokovic

The Wimbledon prize money increased by 10% in 2012, to a total of GBP 16,060,000.

The winner, runner up and semi-finalist prize money increased by 4.5% but it is players who lose in the early rounds who will receive the biggest percentage increase in comparison to 2011. The prize money for those who lose in the first round has increased by 26.1%.

In 2012 the Australian Open offered the highest prize money in the history of grand slam tennis with a total prize pool of AUD 26 million (approx GBP 16,658,500). I’ve listed the AO and also the French Open prize money for each round in USD so you can compare.

Exchange rates can fluctuate a lot during the year. The Wimbledon amounts were converted to US Dollars using the OANDA currently converter on 8 June and the French Open and Australian Open amounts were converted on 14 May.

Nice earner for the winners. I wonder how much they actually get to keep after tax and management and agent fees!
