Tennis Replays: Serena Wow, Delpo is Back, Indian Wells is Coming Up

March 2, 2011 By grandslamgal

Snippets of news from the tennis world this week.

Serena Williams – Wow!

Serena Williams, who hasn’t played tennis for quite a while now due to a foot injury, looked amazing at the Oscar’s parties that she attended this week. And to compliment the look, or maybe because combining a stiletto and a cast could lead to further injuries, her ankle boot cast was nowhere to be seen.

Serena pulled out of her highly publicised appearance at the Nike Clash of Champions which will be held on March 8 but hopefully putting the lack of boot on show for all the world to see means she really will be back on the court soon.

Del Potro is Back

After being sidelined last year due to a wrist injury, there were big hopes for Juan Martin del Potro to play a smashing come back match at this year’s Australian Open. That wasn’t to be and there were a lot of concerned fans when he called the trainer a few times during the Round 2match that he lost to Marcos Baghdatis.

Since then though, del Potro has rallied in splendid style

He won the Delray Beach International Tennis Championships in the US this week, beating Janko Tipsarevic in 2 sets. The win, his first since winning the US Open in 2009, will move him up to Top 100 ranking.

Welcome back Delpo!

Indian Wells, Coming Right Up

The BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells starts with qualifying matches on 7 and 8 March and round 1 on 9 March. Raonic, Nishikori, Harrison and Tomic have been given wildcards.

Given that the field of players already includes the Top 5 men; Nadal, Federer, Djokovic, Soderling and Murray, there’s going to be some amazing tennis at this, the “most attended tennis tournament outside of the Grand Slams“.

In other news, Djokovic continues his slamming form, beating Federer in straight sets in the Dubai final last Saturday. Is this a sign of things to come?

The ATP Online Tennis Draw Challenge starts next week with Indian Wells. Find out more about it and join the “Grand Slam Fans” group.
