I’m really torn about who to support in this final. Both teams have players that I respect and admire.
On the Argentinian side, Nalbandian has been one of my faves for years and years, not to mention Del Potro and his soft eyed, softly spoken style.
On the Spanish side, of course, there is Rafa. I would like nothing more than to have him part of the winning Davis Cup team.
Such a fighter, such a great tennis ambassador. Such great biceps.
So where does this leave me?
All week I have been pondering who to support.
For a while I decided to sit on the fence and support great tennis, hoping for great matches that keep the crowd on edge and keep me up in the middle of the night watching, not wanting to miss a minute.
But while I’ve been writing this article I decided to have to take a side.
And, despite the adoration that I have for the player that Rafa is, and everything that he has achieved, and everything that he will still achieve, on this occasion I have to give my support to Argentina.
I’m supporting their first time win.
I’m supporting the great Argentinian players.
I’m supporting the team that is not playing at home.
I’m supporting Nalbandian.
And I’m supporting well-back-from-last-year’s-injury Del Potro.
This weekend, he’s my number Juan.
How about you? Who are you supporting in the Davis Cup final?
Until next time

Spain went on to win the 2011 Davis Cup and I can’t help but be happy for them. Better luck next year for the Argentina team.
