American Melanie Oudin defeated Serbian player Jelena Jankovic in straight sets 6-4, 6-2 to claim her first WTA title.
Oudin receives $USD 37,000 for the win, plus the trophy and a big bottle of Moet. Jankovic receives $USD 19,000 as runner up plus a trophy and a smaller champers.
Due to rain delays both players finished their quarter-final matches and played their semi-finals on Sunday 17th June, the day that the final was due to be played. The final was carried over to Monday 18th June and fortunately the weather gods smiled so it went ahead without disruption.
Oudin, who was part of the winning US Open Mixed Doubles team with Jack Sock in 2011, entered the AEGON Classic ranked outside the Top 200, going through qualifying to get into the main draw. She has been given a wild card for Wimbledon.
Jankovic is a former world No.1 and currently ranked No.22. This was her 27th WTA Singles final, with her last title win being in 2010 at Indian Wells.
