Tennis Replays: Rafa’s Wet T-Shirt, Kanga-rog, Longest Women’s Match Ever

January 23, 2011 By grandslamgal

Injuries have crept back in Round 3 of the 2011 Australian Open, Rafa has a new type of shirt, Roger went to the zoo and more.

Troiki withdrew against Djokovic due to stomach problems, Baghdatis withdrew against Melzer due to a finger injury and Venus withdrew really early in her match against Petkovic.

And did you see the Petko-Dance after Andrea Petkovic went on to Round 4, beating Maria Sharapova in straight sets on Sunday night? Here’s the story of how the Petko-Dance began.

Take our new poll on the right and tell us if you loved it or hated it.

Here are some more snippets.

Rafa’s Wet T-Shirt

Rafa’s AO outfits are made of a new type of material that’s meant to draw sweat away from the body and keep the player cooler.

Drawing it away from the body and keeping it on the shirt, or so it looks! The shirts cling to Rafa more than usual.  Especially to the big guns.

Consensus is that he would win a wet T-Shirt competition. What do you think?

Kanga-Rog

I saw this photo via Twitter that was sourced from Roger Federer’s Facebook page and it made me go “awwwww”.

Everyone from overseas wants a photo with a kangaroo or two, right? It’s a classic Australian experience for an overseas visitor.

It was taken at the Melbourne Zoo. Nice one Roger.

The Longest Women’s Tennis Match Ever

Francesca Shiavone played Svetlana Kuznetsova on Hisense arena in Round 4 on Sunday in the longest women’s tennis match ever.

4 hours and 44 minutes.

The level of tennis was incredible. And those gals just kept on playing and returning excellent shots.

It was the kind of match you don’t want anyone to lose.

Go girls!  Schiavone goes through to play Wozniaki in the quarter final.  Hopefully gets a bit of rest in the mean time.

Until next time,

Update on the wet T-Shirt situation after Rafa’s Round 4 match, in his press conference following the match he advised that he had a virus that was making him sweat, and felt that he was back to full physical condition. Seems like he sweated less too so maybe it’s not the new top.
