Interesting facts from the 2014 Grand Slam Finals
2014 has been a great year for tennis with lots of surprises.
- In the four women’s singles events there were eight different finalists.
- Three first time grand slam finalists in the women’s singles events were Cibulkova, Halep and Bouchard.
- With victory at the US Open Serena Williams clenched her eighteenth grand slam title.
- There were four different winners of the men’s singles titles with only Nadal and Djokovic appearing in multiple finals.
- Nadal made up for defeat in the Australian Open, which would have given him at least two of each grand slam title, by winning his nineth French Open at Roland Garros.
- Wawrinka, Cilic and Nishikori all made their first grand slam finals appearances.
- Roger Federer has gone a second year without a grand slam title. Federer’s last grand slam title being Wimbledon in 2012.
