Aussie Summer of Tennis Update…The Story So Far This Year

January 13, 2013 By grandslamgal

Read on for review of tennis tournament winners and news to date in January 2013.

It’s been an awesome January already and there’s a feeling in the air that this Aus Open will be the best yet, even bigger and better than ever before. In AO readiness, over the last week all manner of Australian animals like crocodiles, koalas and wombats have been rolled out to help the players feel at home.

Nole, defending champion and World No.1, has been doing all types of media events, Roger has been relaxing and even though Rafa and his knees are in another hemisphere, the show must go on.

For the Australian’s who support Aussie tennis players there will be plenty to watch with 16 Australians in the main draw plus both Hewitt and Tomic in sizzling form. Personally I’m hoping that will take some of the pressure off Stosur and helps her get past the first round.

A Recap of Winners from Tournaments in January

Hopman Cup, Perth

  • Spain (Anabel Medina Garrigues and Fernando Verdasco) defeated Serbia (Ana Ivanovic and Novak Djokovic).
